Video-On-Demand Server

Proto Tech's Video-On-Demand Server is a software component of a DTV Head-End Application Suite which stores MPEG-2 video files in a database and builds MPEG transport streams for Pay-Per-View events in response to the requests from the Provisioning Server which provides authorization and provisioning of DTV Set-Top Boxes via integration with the customer's CRM and Head-End hardware.

Proto Tech's Provisioning Server is compatible with many Set-Top Boxes and a variety of hardware/software platforms and allows one to easily implement IPPV and Call Ahead PPV.

Proto Tech has an established track record for supplying stable digital DTV Head-End software
for Unix and MS-Windows´┐Ż platforms.


The application of the Video-On-Demand Server in a typical DTV Head-End system is depicted in the diagram below:

As illustrated above, Proto Tech's Video-On-Demand Server interfaces with the SEM via the Gigabit interface to feed prencoded content to the HFC network.

The Video-On-Demand Server tightly interfaces with the customer's CRM system via Provisioning Server and contains an internal 16TB storage array that acts as a database for preencoded video content. Communication with Provisioning Server is accomplished through a the TCP/IP protocol.

Optionally, the Provisioning Server provides an interface to a Program Listing Server (EPG, EIT) for implementating subscriber notifications about the available content stored on the VOD.

The Video-On-Demand Server is a multithreaded application compatible with uniprocessor SCO-Unix or multiprocessor MS-Windows´┐Ż NT family of operating systems, including but not limited to MS-Winfows™ Server 2003.
